The soil of Rupganj will speak one day. The name of a brave man who stood up against those who have perpetrated oppression and torture across the land, who have forced innocent people to endure with their mouths shut by wielding the stick of power—Selim Pradhan.

This protester was a terrible victim of the brutal misrule that was carried out in Rupganj during the Awami League regime that lasted for the past decade. False cases, political attacks, threats and intimidation were all part of his daily life. He was targeted, especially when he spoke out against the monopoly of the ruling MP Ghazi and his loyal forces. His home, business, family—nothing was safe. Yet he did not stop.

The greatest example of his bravery was on August 5, when after the fall of the autocratic Sheikh Hasina government, MP Gazi’s close confidant Dipu Bhuiyan and his terrorist group became violent again in Rupganj. They tried to suppress Selim Pradhan by launching one attack after another. But despite hundreds of adversities, threats, and the fear of death, he stood firm and proved that people who stand for the truth are never afraid.

Selim Pradhan is not just a political activist, he is a dedicated fighter for society. He believes that the true development of a country does not mean just building roads or buildings—but rather ensuring human rights, establishing justice, and inspiring the young society to follow an honest and conscious path. He has been working tirelessly towards that goal.

His every step reflects a fighting spirit. Where others bow their heads, he utters in a strong voice—”I have not compromised with injustice, and I will not.” His indomitable spirit and honest politics are shining as a light of hope in the hearts of the people of Rupganj today.

The people of Rupganj know today that only those who can fight against injustice at the risk of their lives can lead the future. Selim Pradhan is that beacon of light, who is not only a protester, but also a dreamer of a new, beautiful, just social system.

He has proven, “If the protest is for justice, that is the greatest patriotism.”
